Course Objective

This course intends to give students the ability to conceive of the relations between culture and the city in context of current developments; to define concepts and frameworks of cultural economy, cultural tourism, creative cities, creative industries and culture-led regeneration and planning; to explain the rise in culture through temporary and permanent developments guiding urban futures; and to consider the successes and failures of cultural policies from cases around the world.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define the basic framework of cultural sphere
2   To describe the extent of cultural industry, creative cities, and culture-led regeneration,
3   To interpret the cultural sector indicators and their spatial impacts in contemporary cities
4   To examine the local implications via considerations of the world experience
5   To criticize the cultural policies and spatial implementations
