Course Objective

This course aims at examining the planning strategies and urban design approaches used in the formation and redevelopment of vital and economically viable city centres with reference to city centre redevelopment projects implemented in different cities of western countries and making evaluations related to issues and concepts that carry significance in terms of enabling the viability of town centres.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students will be able to define the historical development process of city centres,
2   will be able to summarize the planning approaches developed for city centres that enter into a process of change,
3   will be able to list the factors that provide opportunities for the redevelopment of city centres,
4   will be able to examine the principles used in the reshaping of space-land use composition and enabling the economic viability,
5   will be able to analyse the existing structure of the central area of a city determined within the context of their researches.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures aided by visual material and the students will learn topics by attending the lectures. Homework assignments will be prepared in accordance with the course content and presented individually by the students.
