Course Objective

This course aims at providing the students with information about the sounds of Turkish, their classification with reference to distinctive features, the suprasegmental phonemes in Turkish such as stress, tone, intonation, and the phonological processes such as elision, assimilation and harmony.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   produce the phonetic symbols pertaining to the sounds of Turkish
2   classify the sounds of Turkish
3   explain how the sounds of Turkish are produced
4   explain, with examples, the relations between sounds and the processes that influence these sounds
5   explain the phonological processes in Turkish
