This course aims at drawing attention to the origins of language, linguistic typology and introducing writing systems and alphabets.

1   Classify languages in terms of geneaology
2   Classiy languages in terms of their morphology
3   Discuss the views about the origins of languages by making comparisons
4   Explain the emergence and the development of writing systems
5   Explain the notion of alphabet and types of alphabets

7 Writing Systems: Pictograms, Ideograms

9 Hieroglyphs and Development of Egyptian Writing
10 Cuneiform writing
11 Rebus Principle, Syllable Writing System
12 Alphabetical Writing (Sound Writing System), Alphabet Types: Latin, Cyrillic and others
