General Description

History

This program is founded in Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences Department of Management Information Systems at 08/08/2011. Enterprises take a special interest in potential projects which make a difference for themselves in todays highly competitive and global markets.Their sources are oriented to these activities.Correspondingly, necessity of people who manage information, technology and human together have increased. Management Information Systems (MIS) Doctorate Program is designed for providing students intense information about programming languages, computer and network technologies, database, distributed process calculations, trends of technology, limits, economy, standardization, e-commerce and software management project. MIS Ph.D. Program will provide significant benefits to people who make solutions with using advanced technologies wish to work as a manager.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Four electives in the first semester (12 national credits = 30 ECTS), "Science Philosophy and Ethics" as compulsory courses and three elective courses (12 national credits = 30 ECTS) in the second semester, compulsory Seminar and Expertise courses and three elective courses (compulsory 6 ECTS + elective courses 24 ECTS = 30 ECTS) will be taken in the third semester.

Profile of the Programme

The Management Information Systems PhD program is an interdisciplinary program aimed at using information technology in the field of management.The goal of the PhD program is to be able to develop innovative scientific expertise with independent thinking ability, capable of presenting original ideas, capable of scientific research, capable of original thinking and work, having a critical perspective

3   Brings academic contributions to the field by bringing theoretical knowledge gained in management information systems, geographical information systems and information technology fields together with other disciplines
4   Information technology, management and organization and operational research in the field of information using the appropriate MIS tools can be converted to any probing solution proposals.
5   To be able to analyze MIS data using information technology techniques
6   In accordance with scientific ethics and standards in the field, thesis, report etc., being able to write, present and publish as an article.
7   To be able to critically evaluate the information related to the field.
8   To be able to develop quality culture by interpreting the national and international quality standards (TSE, DIN, EN, ISO) directly and indirectly related to MIS.
9   Planning, collecting data, extracting information from data, suggesting and announcing proposals and to act according to scientific and ethical values in the solution of MIS problems

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the Ph.D. are able to take up suitable positions at the private sector and the public sector. The graduates of Ph.D. program may also study their academic career.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (84 ECTS), a field study (3 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
