General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Maritime Business Administration Department was established in 1993. Under the roof of this Department, Marine Tourism Distance Learning Masters Program started in 2014-2015 The program aims to educate, improve and expertise its students who will work in the land side of marine tourism, teach them the philosophy of science. The graduates of the program will be able to carry out scientific researches and can be employed as middle or top level managers in marine tourism organizations both in public and private sector. The medium of instruction of the Program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Profile of the Programme

Developing original methods by using basic management techniques for the solution of professional problems in marine tourism and related fields and having the ability to apply these methods by considering efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety and environmental issues, able to follow the developments in the national and international marine tourism with a systematic approach, using technology and knowledge The program, which aims to raise individuals who can create knowledge and provide life-long learning for marine tourism by using their processing skills, offers an education/training plan for educating of scientists in the field of marine tourism, conducting scientific studies, and senior managers who will work in the private sector and public institutions in the marine tourism sector.

In Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Marine Tourism Distance Learning Masters Program, education and research related with the program are carried out in equipped lassrooms, and Port operations, Logistics, Computer and Management Simulation labs. Students and academics have access to both wireless and ethernet line internet connections and a library. The medium of instruction is Turkish.

1   Develops original solutions to the problems encountered in the field of marine tourisms and related subjects by making the best use of contemporary business administration techniques and applies these solutions by considering efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety and ecology.

3   Provides life long learning and knowledge creation on marine tourism by using technology and information processing techniques.
4   Reaches the required knowledge for marine tourism; understands and evaluates the critiques on this knowledge.
5   Acts in compliance with the requirements of total quality management principles in marine tourism.
6   Develops strategies, policies and implementation plans in the main and related fields of marine tourism.
7   Pursues national and international developments in marine tourism environment through systematic approaches and states them in written or oral form.
8   Communicates effectively with the marine tourism specialist and uses the related terminology.
9   Attends the related projects, publishes studies in national and international aspects with the academic responsibility.
10   Sudies on marine tourism and related subjects.
11   Provides coordination between related authorities on marine tourism.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Marine Tourism Masters Program are employed in a wide range of positions in both private and public sectors. The graduates can acquire positions in top level management of different fields of the private sector, such as marine tourism and yachting sector, passenger and cruise ship management, passenger and cruise management, marine management and marine tourism management fields.

Access to Further Studies

Students who graduate from this program are not entitled to apply to doctoral programs.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Courses in the program are given in two semesters. While compulsory courses are designed to cover all functions of marine tourism businesses, elective courses are formed in such a way that the student can specialize on a certain marine tourism business function. There are compulsory and elective courses in both semesters, and there is also a compulsory term project in the program. Students have to take 30 ECTS courses in a semester (including elective courses and term project).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member(s) and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program consists of 60 ECTS in total, including related courses (55 ECTS) and Term Project (5 ECTS). Students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50/4.00 and pass all courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
