General Description

History

Master of Accounting and Finance without Thesis programme commenced its education and training activities in 2012. This programme's goal is to educate individuals and professionals who are equipped with in-depth knowledge in the areas of accounting and finance; who have an ability to perform financial synthesis using quantitative techniques ; who possess professional ethical values. In this programme, courses are taught between the hours 17:30 and 22:00. Medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programmes if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Programme Graduates to First Cycle Programmes" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

In this programme, there are fundamental accounting and finance courses. There are accounting courses such as Advanced Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Accounting for Decision Making. There are finance courses such as Financial Markets and Institutions, Foundations of Finance, Financial System and Environment and Financial Management. Moreoever, econometric ans statistical methods by which students can use in the preparation of their thesis are taught in the course of Quantitative Methods in Accounting and Finance. Besides these fundamental and mandatory courses, there are many elective courses such as Auditing, Strategic Cost Management, Securities Analysis and Portfolio Management, International Financial Management, Financial Risk Management and Derivatives, Behavioral Finance and Bank Management. It expected that students become specialized by means of elective courses.
The objective of this programme is to educate financially literate professionals who have an ability to evaluate the effects of national and international economic- financial developments on the business performance; have an ability to manage business risks; have an ability to coordinate the process of preparing, analyzing and interpreting financial statements; have an ability to play a critical role in teamworking and to contribute to the strategic decision making process considering the interactions between business functions; are equipped with in-depth knowledge in the areas of business finance management, financial markets and institutions, security evaluation, portfolio management, international finance, accounting and auditing; to have an ability to perform financial synthesis using quantitative techniques; possess professional ethical values.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

After graduation, our students start work in the accounting and finance departments of private firms, financial institutes such as banks and insurance companies, and audit firms.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

This programme comprises three semesters. All the courses in the first semester are compulsory. There are three compulsory courses and one elective course in the second semester. There is one compulsory and one elective course in the third semester. Compulsory courses are about the topics in the accounting and finance areas, which the student has to comprehend definetely. Elective courses, on the other hand, provide a means of specialization for the students.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Programme is comprised of courses (at least 72 ECTS), Term Project (18 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
