: Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing

General Description

History

Department of Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing was established at 2005. Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing Program focuses on developting creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making level mental processes using the women's health issues for a comprehensive, current literature, evidence, theories and models based on the appropriate approach in nursing practice, education and research. The language of the program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

A successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

The aim of program: To educate academics and researchers who will develop nursing knowledge through scientific research and health care practices

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To have knowledge at the level of expertise, to develop and deepen this knowledge in order to perform the roles and responsibilities of a OGN nurse based on undergraduate qualifications.
2   To be able to integrate the comprehensive data obtained from disciplines related to OGN
3   To be able to use the theoretical and applied knowledge obtained in OGN.
4   To be able to carry out a planned research regarding the diagnosis and solutions of the problems in the field of OGN.
5   To be able reflect the results of the research on the field of care.
6   To be able to develop solutions, evaluate the results for the problems determined in the field of OGN
7   To be able to offer solutions for the complex problems that might be encountered in practices in the field of OGN.
8   To be able to evaluate information related to the field of OGN critically, and to be able to direct his/her own learning
9   To be able to publish a scientific research at a national journal or to be able to present it in a scientific meeting.
10   . To be able to share information, current developments and his/her own studies with the groups in the same or different groups orally, visually or in written
11   To examine the social relationships and the norms directing these relationships critically, and to develop these and to take action to change these when necessary.
12   To be able to develop strategy, politics and practice plans in topics related to OGN:
13   To be able to apply the knowledge of OGN and the skill of problem solving in multi- disciplined studies.
14   To be able to communicate at least in one foreign language orally or in written. (European Language Portfolio General Level: B2).
15   To behave ethically by being aware of the ethical rules and the importance of these for the individual and the society
16   To contribute to the solutions of social, scientific, cultural and ethical problems related to the field of the OGN and to support the development of these values
17   To make use of up-to-date developments and information related to the field of health in the direction of national values and country realities

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates can work like a nurse specialists as the first, second and third level health institutions,also in nursing and midwifery training as trainers who in undergraduate programs.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Every student must register to total of 30 ECTS. 150 out of 240 ECTS must be thesis studies. Throughout PhD study, each student must collect 90 ECTS (including 12 ECTS of Specialty Area course) in 3 semesters. During course period of PhD study, every student should enroll to at least 20 ECTS of common elective courses (such as, Research culture, research methods and transferrable skills) and at least 20 ECTS more from discipline based and laboratory skill courses. Also, student may enroll to a common elective, discipline based and laboratory skill courses in a different institute or university to complete 20 ECTS. Every student must register to Thesis related reseach topic I in first semester and Thesis related reseach topic II in second semester. Furthermore, during course period , each student should attend to a Ethics course or training.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma. Minimum GPA 80/100 or 3/4, minimum score of 60 from the nation-wide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields, minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (YDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained fromTOEFL/IELTS/etc, and being successful at the science examination of the Institute in the related fields (minimum score of 70)
