General Description

History

Department of Pharmacology was established in 1987. In our department, Pharmacology faculty members are staffed. Programme of Pharmacology Doctorate was started to education in 1998. The time of the programme is 4 semi year lesson and 4 semi year thesis. Totaly 8 semi years. The language of the programme is Turkish

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students who continued the same programme in an another university can use their previous credits with the departments suggestion and the health science institute s approval.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

TThird Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Pharmacology Department started to Pharmacology Doctorate programme in 1998. The aim of the programme is to have knowledge about pharmacology improve presentation skills, to follow scientific developments in area and to have knowledge and skills about research. Students may choose lessons in another departments.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To know basic definitions related pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and pharmacovigilance and use in his/her career.
2   To have knowledge about laboratory principles, planning, doing and commenting experiment
3   To read, to comment literature, to earn ability to adaptation of the changes in science
4   Have learning behavior in all life, communication with colleagues
5   To have ability, to construct and run centers about adverse reactions of drugs in hospitals
6   To have knowledge in a foreign language, to make oral and poster presentations in foreign congresses and to write manuscript
7   To have knowledge about special topics in pharmacology and to solve problems by using these.
8   To have ability to work in a group and have ethical responsibility. .
9   To have knowledge about topics such as pharmacogenetic, biochemistry related pharmacology and to have ability to solve problems by using these knowledge.
10   To be aware of his/her adequacy.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Every student must register to total of 30 ECTS. 150 out of 240 ECTS must be thesis studies. Throughout PhD study, each student must collect 90 ECTS (including 12 ECTS of Specialty Area course) in 3 semesters. During course period of PhD study, every student should enroll to at least 20 ECTS of common elective courses (such as, Research culture, research methods and transferrable skills) and at least 20 ECTS more from discipline based and laboratory skill courses. Also, student may enroll to a common elective, discipline based and laboratory skill courses in a different institute or university to complete 20 ECTS. Every student must register to Thesis related reseach topic I in first semester and Thesis related reseach topic II in second semester. Furthermore, during course period , each student should attend to a Ethics course or training.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The assessment criteria for each course are defined in the Course Description Form included in the information pack prepared by the faculty member/members. The relevant items of the DEU Undergraduate, Graduate Education-Training and Exam Regulations and Instutie Examination Regulations apply in relation to exams and course grades. To be successful in this course must be received at least 75.
