General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Department of Econometrics Programme was founded in 1986. Department of Econometrics Postgraduate Programme will be conducted by Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Department of Econometrics do research and give education on issues related to proper analysis and decision-making on economic and business problems with the help of mathematics, statistics and operations research. Language of instruction is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Department of Econometrics Postgraduate Programme is continuing its education and training activities with 4 professors, 4 associate professors, 5 assistant professors and 14 research assistants. The number of PC under use of student and course is 2 and they are open to use for workday at 8:30-19:00 hours. At Department of Econometrics, there are 2 seminar rooms and Wireless Internet connection on those rooms. Language of instruction is Turkish.

4   To be able to contribute to ones own area by gathering the information that obtain in the field of econometrics, statistics and operation research and the other discipline.
5   To be able to make analysis by using ones academic and practical information in the field of econometrics, statistics and operation research.
6   To be able to develop critical perspective for academic work.
7   To be able to have academic competence about submitting and defending the ones own knowledge.
8   To be able to prepare an essay which can be published in the international peer-reviewed journal.
9   To be able to have capability of interdisciplinary work.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates are able to find jobs in both the public and private sectors. They can apply to the exams for various positions such as inspectorate, auditor, and assistant specialist declared by various ministries. Some institutions which require frequent data analysis and synthesis such as Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), the State Planning Organization (SPO), the Treasury, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), and the Central Bank prefer Econometrician.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Courses in the Econometrics doctoral program are compulsory and optional, and they are required to successfully complete the courses in 2 semesters. There are no prerequisites for taking the courses. In the courses of the program, the ability to benefit from other disciplines that form the basis of Econometrics, Operations Research and Statistics and to have advanced knowledge about these disciplines are gained.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (84 ECTS) a field study (3 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS) in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
