DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: Chemistry Technology

General Description

History

This program has been initiated under YÖK/World Bank Project in 2002 2003 academic year. This two year program is composed of four semesters, each 14 weeks duration. In these two years, academic courses, laboratories and also industry based learning are educated. Chemistry Technology Program provides education as secondary education as well as formal education.

It is aimed to supply the needs of the technician in the present and future. Thus, the chemical technician as a member of industrial chemical team is expected to have much more knowledge and predictions than skilled workers.
The main role of a chemistry technician is to assist the chemists and chemical engineers in the operation of industrial processes and laboratories applications. Therefore, it is aimed to educate the technicians who have extensive knowledge of basic chemical principles and ability to control and operate advanced technical equipments.

Qualification Awarded

Chemistry Technology, Associate's Degree.

Level of Qualification

Short Cycle (Associate's Degree).

Specific Admission Requirements

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate. The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legislation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK).

The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam. According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors.

The courses taken by the outgoing.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

Our Vision
"To be an exemplary educational institution that trains qualified technicians with the necessary professional qualifications in the field of chemical science and chemical technology."

Our Mission
"To educate contemporary technicians who have the knowledge and skills to serve in the chemical industry and related sectors, can think creatively and critically, are sensitive to ethical values and make lifelong learning a way of life."

Our Educational Purpose
"To train contemporary technicians who have the knowledge and skills to work effectively in product development, production and quality control processes based on chemical science, sensitive to ethical values, compatible with teamwork, creative, critical and analytical thinking, needed in the constantly developing chemical industry and related sectors in our country."

Chemistry Technology program has been initiated under YÖK/World Bank Project in 2002-2003 academic year. The curriculum has designed to introduce the students to the fundamental concepts of chemistry and industrial chemistry as well as applicable hands on practice and experiments. In the Program, while courses are taught by the lecturers in the classes of the vocational high school, laboratories applications are performed by a chemist or chemistry engineer in the laboratories of the program. Also, the students complete their practice lessons to perform their eight weeks industrial based learning in the second class (40 days compulsory). Education is given in Turkish in the program. Sixtyfive students are enrolled and educated in the first year. A Professor, an Associate Professor and three Lecturers are currently working in the program. Chemistry technology program has two laboratories named as general chemistry laboratory and instrumental analysis laboratory in the vocational school. In these laboratories, chemistry applications are done sufficiently by apparatus and devices which were supplied by YÖK/World Bank Project.
