Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the basic knowledge of laboratory and to get practices of issues within the scope of General Chemistry-2 course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define experimentally the measurement of the reaction rate.
2   To be able to specify the factors that affect the chemical equilibrium.
3   To be able to measure the pH of a substance using a pH meter or litmus paper.
4   To be able to make volumetric analysis.
5   To be able to determine density of a fluid using a pycnometer.
6   To be able to measure the refractive index of a substance with the refractometer device.
7   To be able to determine the moisture content of a substance with drying oven method.
8   To be able to find ash content of a material using the muffle furnace.

Course Contents

1 Introduction to General Chemistry Laboratory, teaching of chemistry laboratory materials and laboratory working rules.
2 The concept of isomers, isomer types and model study.
3 Application of chemical kinetics.
4 Application of chemical equilibrium.
5 Solubility equilibrium and recognition of the solutions.
6 Chemical composition, properties and production of soap.
7 pH and indicators
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Determination of the density and the refractive index of the edible vegetable oil.
10 Determination of saponification number of edible vegetable oil and adjustment of solution.
11 Determination of moisture content the cereal product.
12 Determination of ash content of the cereal product.
13 Determination of the salt content of a cereal product and adjustment of solution.
14 Application of thermodynamics.
15 General repetition and compensation experiment.
