General Description
History |
Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Department of Women s Studies was founded in 2013 along with the launching of the Master in Women s Studies Programme. Non-thesis Master programme is launched in 2015. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the Women s Studies, the teaching staff of the Department is composed of specialized academics from various departments of the University. By questioning societal and gender issues from the womens viewpoint, the program aims to theoretically and empirically contribute to the solution of the problem of inequality between men and women that affects women s social status especially in Türkiye, and critical academic studies regarding gender roles and male-women equality. This program will become a strong academic reference for deepening the awareness of institutions in and out of the university towards issues related with inequality between men and women and gender. Hence, after two semesters of courses for the non-thesis Master programme, students are expected to register 15 courses and fulfill a term project. The Department aims to plan the extracurricular activities such as national and international projects, academic workshops, conferences and seminars in addition to the postgraduate education and research activities. The language of instruction is Turkish. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |

Profile of the Programme |
In the non-thesis Master Programme of Department of Women s Studies of Dokuz Eylül University, there are 11 teaching staff and 1 research assistant. There are 40 computers available for the use of students and classes between 8.30 and 17.00 every week day. Besides, computer labs, wireless internet connection and the library established under the framework of Research Center for Women s Rights and Problems since 2011 gives support to students for their thesis, projects and academic studies. The language of instruction is Turkish. |

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
Graduates can be employed as experts in public and private, local and national institutions regarding women and gender issues. They can also be employed as researchers and practitioners in institutions such as Dokuz Eylül University Research Center for Womens Rights and Problems that aim to grow awareness in the field of gender issues with the means of academic studies. Besides, graduates will have the possibility to apply their acquired knowledge regarding gender issues with different theoretical and methodological approaches in various occupations and fields. |

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined in the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member/s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education. |
Graduation Requirements |
Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 75 ECTS) and a term project (15 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades. |
