Aim of the course is to arrange the variety and function of herbarium found in Turkey and in the world. Besides, herbarium of the flowering and non-flowering plants are given so that the students determine the function and importantance of arboretum and botanic garden.

2   To list the first and the richest herbariums in Turkey and in the world
3   To apply collecting plants from the nature
4   To use the techniques which use for sticking the dries samples to herbarium cardboards
5   To apply ticketing to the samples which sticked to cardboards
6   To apply drying plants in presses
7   To describe the importance of herbarium and botanic garden
8   To make the herbaria of unflowering and flowering plants

1 General information on herbarium and other preservation techiniques
2 Types of applications of herbarium and other preservation methods for various plants
3 Collecting and preserving microscopic algae
4 Keeping and examining microscopic and macroscopic aquatic plants in the collection laboratory
5 Some general characteristics of macroscopic aquatic plants
6 First field work (herbarium and drying of macroscopic aquatic plants collected during field work, and preparation of a report)
7 Field work, drying and naming of pressed specimens, labelling, and preparation of a report
8 Midterm exam
9 Collecting fungi and lichens
10 Collection and preservation of liverworts and mosses
11 Collecting and preserving ferns
12 Second field work, herbarium of land plants collected, and preparation of a report
13 Second field work, naming and labelling of land plants collected, and preparation of a report
14 Handover of prepared herbarium specimens, evaluation and presentation of report
