Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the concept of globalization by looking at its definition, history, and economic, political, social and cultural dimensions. The course will provide the theoretical knowledge that is required for understanding its impact on the international system through historical and contemporary perspectives toward nation-states, security, identity, democracy, international political economy, global governance and post-Cold War order.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe globalization in order to assess its role in international affairs.
2   Examine the history of globalization to recognize different dimensions that have shaped its development
3   Understand economic, political, social and cultural dimensions of globalization
4   Demonstrate understanding of different theoretical approaches toward globalization
5   Be able to acquire presentation skills

1. The learners will explain different dimensions of globalization and its history.
2. The learners will explain the impact of globalization on the functioning of international system by adopting a theoretical framework.
3. The learners will participate in class discussions by offering relevant contributions, which demonstrates understanding of course readings.
4. The learners will write a term paper and make a class presentation.
