Course Objective

The course is designed to analyze the evolution of international economic institutions since World War II. The analysis focuses on the post-war world configuration of international institutions designed to manage international trade and monetary affairs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Get familiar with the global institutions designed to manage international trade and monetary affairs, in order to understand the world economic order especially after WW2.
2   Have a better understanding of the background of globalisation process to understand the existence of the international economic institutions.
3   Assess the impact of the ongoing globalization process on the economic growth, development and welfare of nations in the context of the current free trade / protectionism debate.
4   Develop individual ideas on past and modern problems regarding international economic relations and policies and express these ideas orally and in written language.
5   Apply advanced analytical tools in order to understand policy problems regarding the stabilization of balance of payments and exchange rates.

1. The learner will clearly discuss the relationship between national economies and international economic institutions.
2. The learner will be able to explain the effects on international economic institutions on welfare.
3. The learner will present his/her ideas in an organized manner written and orally by preparing a research paper.
