Course Objective

The course objective is to teach students how to edit a text and translations of their own or other translators; to help them acquire the skills and knowledge of text editing, proofreading, rewriting and editing methods, in both theory and practice.

1   Explain the tasks of an editor and the concepts of editing and proofreading
2   Explain the editing process and be knowledgable about the types of editing
3   Learn and apply editing symbols
4   Describe and apply stylistic and structural editing/proofreading
5   Edit and proofread texts in the context of various text types, target audience expectations, strategies, translation situations and tasks

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures will be made face-to-face in an interactive way. Students will practice critical thinking and develop reading skills. Reading activities will be performed in a dynamic, critical and effective way, with special emphasis on text types.
