Course Objective

The course objective is to make sure that students learn basic skills for consecutive interpreting, putting them into practice each week by using speech text on miscellaneous topics, and learn and put into practice before the class how to prepare for a consecutive interpreting assignment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   They will be able to combine their not taking and sight translation skills with the skills of consecutive interpreting.
2   They will be able to prepare terminology work on various fields.
3   They will be able to grow in their active listening skills in English as well as Turkish.
4   They will be able to take notes in a source speech and render it into the target language.
5   They will be able to enhance their rhetorical skills and to use their body language effectively.
6   They will be able to address target audience effectively.

Assessment Criteria

1. The attendance grade will be based on (i) the student s participation in the class, (ii) the quality of the answers given by the student to questions asked by the instructor and (iii) the student s contribution to creating a positive learning environment.
2. For grades on the border between two grades, active participation in the class will justify the higher grade.
