Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach how to read, understand and translate scientific and technical texts. Students are expected to acquire the basic skills to determine and transfer the terminological and stylistic features of scientific (mathematics, physics, medicine, biology, chemistry etc) and technical texts (manuals and technical specifications)

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyze technical and scientific texts on terminological and textual levels.
2   Transfer the terminology of technical and scientific texts into another language.
3   Transfer the register of technical and scientific texts into another language.
4   Find solutions for the problems of terminology in technical and scientific texts.
5   Make decisions on what online and printed sources to use in solving terminology problems.

Two midterm exams and a final exam will be given throughout the term. Students are expected to come class translated the texts that are assigned to them weekly and to participate in class discussions and practices. Students are also expected to submit two homeworks based on invidual research.
