Course Objective

This course aims to help students understand the terminology of legal system either in source or in target language, and translate legal texts such as laws or written agreements.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the general characteristics and nature of the legal language, and difficulties encountered in legal translation.
2   Compare main principles and structure of different legal systems.
3   Apply solutions to difficulties encountered in translation of legal texts.
4   Ensure equivalence while translating different types of legal texts.
5   Use effectively electronic or printed resources for legal translation as a distinct kind of specialized translation.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Face to face and interactive courses. Students are expected to come class having translated the texts that are assigned to them weekly and to participate in class discussions and practices. Students are also expected to submit two homeworks based on invidual and group research.
