Course Objective

This course enables students to learn basic information and discussions about historical developments, political structures, social and cultural practices of United Kingdom and Ireland and evaluate this information within the framework of translation studies. Moreover, the discussion of concepts such as feudalism, nation and nation states, colonialism, democracy, enlightenment and multiculturalism will enable the students to gain a critical perspective.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Gain information about the historical developments, political structures, social and cultural practices of United Kingdom and Ireland
2   Evaluate the categories of sociology and cultural studies critically.
3   Compare the cultures of Britain, America and Europe
4   Compare the cultures of Britain and Turkey
5   Acquire analytical skills concerning the cultural problems that they may come across during the translation process.
