Course Objective

The course covers the conceptual and methodological aspects of human psychophysiology. Psychophysiology is the study area linking cognitive, behavioral and emotional phenomena with physiological responses. Psychophysiological measures include EEG, pupillometry, electrodermal activity and various brain imaging techniques. This course will focus on the techniques of recording and analyzing these measures and their physiological basics and psychological interpretations. The main approach of the course is associated with physiological measures on humans and the application of these measures on a broad area of psychology.

1   To be able to identify basic concepts and theories related to aging
2   To be able to examine the physiological, cognitive and social factors associated with aging
3   To be able to explain the interventions promoting brain health and healthy aging
4   To be able to explain the non-pharmacological interventions for pathological aging
5   To be able interpret the current literature findings of physiological and pathological aging
6   To be able to design non-pharmacological intervention studies for physiological and pathological aging

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Topics will be contentiously examined by instructor as a moderator and active participation of students. In addition, there is laboratory work with the course coordinator as a moderator involving the application of psychophysiological methods, and design and conduct experiments

Assessment Criteria

Course requires to prepare homework about current psychophysiology research and to practice in the laboratory for the preparation of experiments using psychophysiological methods. Additionally, final exam including open-ended questions on knowledge, comprehension, analysis, interpretation and synthesis levels will be held.
