Course Objective

Recognizing Western literature in basics; having knowledge about poetic sub-genres developed in West like epic poem, didactic poem and satire; and other sub-genres like tragedia and comedia. Revaluating reflections of types and genres developed in West in Turkey.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognize Western litearture and its representives in basic.
2   Have knowledge about genres like drama, tragedia and comedia that developed in West
3   Have knowledge about Roman litearture, authors and writers of Renaissence, and idea movements like Romanticism and Clasiccism.

Week Subject Description
1 Definition of culture and civilization, introduction to Western culture and civilization.
2 Latin poetry and its representives like Wirgilus and Horatius, samples from these poets works.
3 Prose in Roman, Ceaser and Titus.
4 Languages like Italian,Spanish, German and their origins.
5 Evaluation about Renaissance, Humanism and Reform
6 Art and literature properties of Renaissance.
7 Writers and authors of Renaissance
8 Clasicism and properties of Clasical art woks.
9 Age of Enlightenment, Descartes, Voltaire, Spinoza, David Hume.
10 Knowledge of human and nature in Romanticism.
11 Purpose of art and litearture in Romanticism.
12 Evaluation of Romanticism in the point of language and style and selected texts
13 Comparing Clasicism and Romanticism.
14 General evaluation
