Course Objective

The main aim of the Historical Sociology course, which is an important and current field of social sciences, is to provide students with a historical sociological perspective. Starting from the premise that the potential answers and solutions to many important practical and theoretical problems in social sciences lie at the intersection of history and sociology, this course aims to present a historical epistemology in terms of analyzing everyday life. Therefore, it can be said that the main aim of this course is to examine the main theoretical and methodological debates and contributions in the field of Historical Sociology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn the basic concepts and theories of historical sociology
2   To make the processes of social change more understandable through the basic concepts and theories gained
3   To comprehend the inseparable relationship between history and sociology
4   Increase the diversity of epistemological and methodological knowledge available
5   To follow current debates in social sciences through historical sociological approaches
6   To learn the methodology of comparative historical analysis

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, apart from the lecturer's lectures, students are expected to come to class prepared by reading the articles shared on the Sakai system every week. Therefore, the lecturer uploads first-hand sources in the system every week in accordance with the next course program. Students are expected to read the relevant texts.
