Course Objective

In this course, Modern and Contemporary art movements will be introduced and discussed through artists and their works. This course will focus on the social and cultural developments that have shaped art since the 1800s, and will aim to help students understand the influences that have shaped the production, presentation and transformation of art in this process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn the cultural and social factors that prepared the emergence of modern and contemporary art
2   Perceiving similarities and differences between different artistic approaches
3   To interpret modern art
4   To explore the interdisciplenary aspects of art
5   Discussing an art work and practice with the basic concepts of modern and contemporary art
6   Visiting current exhibitions and develop a critical language about these arts exhibitions
7   Have good command of contemporary art theories and practices both in Türkiye and on the international level
8   Develop an advanced grasp of various ways and forms of expression for contemporary art
