Course Objective

Acceptance testing, preparation of quality control forms, treatment quality control of linear accelerators, teletherapy machines, sources used in brachytherapy and afterloading devices, robotic radiosurgery devices, simulators, CT-Simulator and treatment planning computer systems used in Radiation Oncology.

1   Having the knowledge of the quality standards of radiotherapy equipment.
2   Having the knowledge of tests for quality assurance in radiotherapy devices.
3   Having the knowledge of the daily, monthly and annual quality control tests required to maintain quality assurance
4   Having the knowledge of the control tests for treatment planning system
5   Having the knowledge of the quality controls of the patients treatment

Course Contents

1 Terms of quality control and quality assurance Preparation of quality control forms
2 Mechanical and imaging tests in the treatment simulator. The limits of accuracy in radiotherapy, ISO 9000 and QART.
3 Controls in CT device. Control of the optical cursor, field and angle of rotation, the position of the bed in treatment simulators
4 Quality control of CT SIM device Control of the accuracy of the automatic set-up positioning in CT SIM device.
5 Quality assurance of the Co-60 and the linear accelerator LEDs, light-ray field area, timer control, dose efficiency measurements in Co-60 and Linac.
6 Control of photon and electron dose efficiency, and comprehension of protocols for Linac. Gain settings
7 Controls of asymmetric fields, dynamic wedges, MLC Controls of asymmetric fields, dynamic wedges, MLC
8 Maintaining accuracy in conformal radiotherapy, geometric accuracy. Accuracy in conformal radiotherapy
9 Quality control in IMRT The tools used for the verification of IMRT and treatment verification

Using all available technical and dosimetric equipment to make the relevant applications in radiotherapy after having theoretical knowledge about the subject from Turkish and foreign books, periodicals and protocols.
