Course Objective

The objective of the course is to describe the structure of queue which have been known as waiting line in industrial systems and to define the queuing systems and its applications in maritime transportation. Simple queueing systems, performance measures of these systems with their cost structure will be examined. The students will gain knowledge about the components of simple queuing systems and how to improve such a system performance.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To define basic concepts in probability and some simple statistical distributions
2   2. To explain the basic components of queueing systems.
3   2. To explain the basic components of queueing systems.
4   4. To compute the performance measures of the queuing systems which can be modeled either birth-and-death process or not.
5   5. To create a computer program which can compute the measures of effectiveness of simple queuing systems
6   6. To compute the performance measures of the queuing systems via statistical packages.
7   7. To gain an insight in cost structure of queuing systems and making economic interpretations
8   8. To propose new solutions that make the queuing systems to work much more efficient.
