Course Objective |
Introduction to neurobiology with overview of embryological development of nervous system in evolutionary context. Introduces regional and systems neuroanatomy by studying mammalian visual system with comparative perspective. Introduce the function of the brain s cellular computers: neurons and how neurons differ from other cells. Introduce the function of the brain s cellular computers: neurons and how neurons differ from other cells, how they generate electrical signals and how they communicate with one another via synapses. And also introduce how neurons cooperate in circuits by studying 5 sensory systems: vision, touch, hearing, taste and smell. After learning these fundamentals, we will enter into a topical discussion of the current understanding of important neurobiology topics, including psychiatric disorders, neurological disorders, pain, gender traits and sleep. |
