Course Objective

The objective of the course is to provide an understanding of the advanced issues relating to public revenue, expenditure and public decision making process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to understand advanced microeconomic and game theory tools and be able to understand their applications in public economics settings
2   Be aware of latest developments in public economics and tools for analysis so as to be able to understand advanced theoretical and empirical applications and policy implications
3   Prepare and present a paper in public economics by making research in media and at the library
4   Communicate effectively and clearly in written and oral format

Assessment Criteria

1. The learner will show understanding of welfare analysis; concepts of fairness, equity and efficiency; social welfare, voting behavior, political Institutions and economic policy, international aspects of public economics.
2. The learner will interpret policy design in terms of commodities, income taxation, public goods and externalities, policy outcomes.
3. The learner will prepare and present an advanced paper in a selected topic in public economics.
