Course Objective

It is aimed to teach behavior mechanism in laboratory animals, normal and pathological behaviors. It is aimed to enable researchers and students to use these knowledge and skills in their own animal behavior studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   LO 1. To be able to understand behavior mechanism of experimental animal
2   LO 2. To be able to understand basic and pathologic behaviors of laboratory animals
3   LO 3. Should learn behavior tests of experimental animals.
4   LO 4. Should learn how to analyze behavior tests of experimental animals
5   LO 5. To be able to evaluate stress and discomfort
6   Researchers who use experimental animals should have basic knowledge and skills should be able to put into practice what he/she learned in order to carry out their experiment

1 T: Origin, etiology, historical development of normal behavior in laboratory animals, Neurobiology of behavior (CNS, ANS, endocrine, hormones, fremones) Welfare of laboratory animals P: Basic manipulations in Experimental animals
2 T: Behavioral disorders in laboratory animals Symptoms of behavioral disorders (stress, aggression, anxiety ) Species specific behavioral disorders P: Observation of behavior of laboratory animals inside the cage
3 T: The characteristics of behavior studies in laboratory animals Advantages, disadvantages, strengths and limitations of tests Experimental design P: Observation of behavior of laboratory animals inside the cage
