Course Objective

It is aimed to gain knowledge and skills of effectiveness, areas of use and practice in orthopedic physiotherapy of electro physical agents

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   By the end of the module students will be able to define basic principles of electro therapy.
2   By the end of the module students will be able to define electrophysiological properties of tissues.
3   By the end of the module students will know the effects of hot, cold, and electrotherapeutic methods.
4   By the end of the module students will be able to practice hot, cold, and electrotherapeutic methods.
5   By the end of the module students will be able to practise evidence based electrotherapeutic methods.

1 General principals of electrotherapy
2 Electrophysiological properties of cells and tissues, sensory motor nerve activation and affects of electrotherapy.
3 Application of hot and cold agents and application areas
4 Electro diagnosis (goal, application method, indications and interpretation)
5 Iontophoresis
6 Low, modarate frequency currents
7 High frequency currents (SWD, MWD)
8 Ultrasound (types, effect mechanism, role in fracture and soft tissue healing)
9 General review
10 Electrical stimulation (principals, application in tissue repairmen, musle weakness, muscle performance)
11 TENS and pain control, Acupuncture
12 Biofeedback and clinical applications
13 Laser ULV
14 Ekstrakorporeal shock wave therapy and magnetotherapy
15 Application of evidence based electrophysical agents in orthopaedic physiotherapy
16 Final
