Course Objective

To increase the knowledge and to improve the application skills related to technologic rehabilitation in neurological diseases.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Knows the relation between the damaged brain, neural plasticity and neurorehabilitation technology. 2   2. Knows about technological developments used in neurological rehabilitation. 3   3. Discusses and design technological rehabilitation with assessment and treatment in different clinical problems. 4   4. Gains knowledge and skills about rehabilitation technology and neurorehabilitation literature.

Week Subject Description 1 Understanding the damaged brain and spinal cord: neural plasticity-I 2 Understanding the damaged brain and spinal cord: neural plasticity- II 3 Adapting motor control principles to rehabilitation technologies 4 Multisystem neurorehabilitation technologies - neuroprosthetics and spinal cord injuries 5 Upper extremity robotics - technology and clinical applications in stroke / spinal cord injuries 6 The place of technology and clinical applications in lower extremity robotics (locomotion) 7 Virtual reality in neurorehabilitation 8 Specific aspects in neurorehabilitation technology: Passive systems against robots 9 The role of Stem Cell transplantation in neurorehabilitation 10 Specific aspects in neurorehabilitation technology: Evaluation and safety 11 Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) in spinal cord and stroke patients 12 EMG, ENG, Biofeedback 13 Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation 14 The role of assistive technology in neurorehabilitation 15 Analysis of the lesson and self-assessment
