Course Objective

To give the necessary technological knowledge about the calculations that are used for ceramic production.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To calculate the shrinkage problems.
2   To define the calculations used in body production.
3   To define the calculations used in glaze production.
4   To list the calculations of power, wire and isolation for the kilns.
5   To underline the claculations used for the needs of the production steps.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Machinery park calculation for the factories.
2 Shrinkage calculations for the mould preparations.
3 Rational calculations of the body recipies.
4 Seger Formula for the glazes and calculations.
5 Calculations of the surface tension, acid-base ratio, and fluxability coefficients of the glazes.
6 Calculations of the expansion coefficient of the glazes.
7 The calculations for the laboratory tests.
8 Mid-term exam
9 The calculations for the laboratory tests.
10 Power and wire calculations for the electric kilns.
11 Isolation calculations for the kilns.
12 Calculations for the supply, crushing and stock of the raw materials.
13 Calculations used in the application cards.
14 Capacity calculations for the tunnel kilns.
