Course Objective

To give the necessary technological knowledge and ability to produce of a new designed product and to make all the controls of the production steps.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To obtain the necessary information to produce a new product.
2   To select the raw materials and shaping technique for production.
3   To apply the shaping, drying and firing techniques.
4   To prefer the appropriate glaze for the new product.
5   To apply all the necessary controls.
6   To prepare the technical report.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 The Importance of Occupational Health and Safety in the use of workshops/laboratories, work accidents and occupational diseases, precautions to be taken and sample practices
2 Determination of the material to be produced. Determination of the appropriate raw materials.
3 Body production.
4 Examination the shaping method.
5 Examination after the drying step. Making corrections if it is needed.
6 Examination after firing process and firing temperatures.
7 Firing controls of the glaze.
8 General Review, Course Evaluation, Midterm exam
9 Comparison of the glazed product with the standarts.
10 Decoration and dye selection.
11 Comparison of the final product with the standarts.
12 Discussion about the product.
13 Preparing the technical report.
14 Preparing the technical report.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The theoretical lectures of the course will be taught in the classroom and the applications of the theoretical issues will be taught in the laboratory. The instructor will discuss the theoretical and applications of the course for better understanding.
