Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain theoretical and practical information about the knitted fabric formation, the production techniques of knitted fabrics, basic knitted structures, the faults in knitted fabrics and the solutions of these faults.

3   To be able to explain the basic knitted structures and their properties
4   To be able to plan the knitting production

1 Introduction to knitted fabric structure and terminology in knitting, examining yarn properties which affect on the knitted fabric
2 Loop structure and the classification of knitting machines
3 Basic machine parts of the knitting machines
4 Flat and circular knitting machines
5 Notations on weft knitting, basic knitting structures and specifications
6 Jacquard systems in the flat and circular knitting machines
7 Jacquard systems in the flat and circular knitting machines
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Knitting derivatives, the needle positions for miss, tuck and transfer
10 Production calculations in weft knitting
11 A sample study for basic weft knitted structure analysis and production calculations
12 Warp knitting, the loop formation, tricot and raschel knitting machines
13 Warp knitting, the loop formation, tricot and raschel knitting machines
14 Quality control of knitted fabrics
15 Quality control of knitted fabrics
16 Final Exam
