Course Objective

The objective of this course is students being acquainted with the basic information on and concepts of sociology; and with the information including cultural, social and socio-economic life conditions of village societies; and their learning general sociologic characteristics of Turkish rural people.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to learn basic information on Sociology in general, and on Village Sociology in particular.
2   Being able to understand the place and importance of sociology and village sociology on the development of the country.
3   Being able to learn family, religion, beliefs, culture, settlement, attitudes and standards of judgments of village society.
4   Being able to understand the place and need of rural sociology within rural development studies in the country
5   Being able to understand the place and importance of rural societies within the economy and culture of the country.

2 Branches of Sociology, It s relationship with other branches of science, Various views and theories expressing social events
3 Definition of rural, village differentiations in various countries, definition of Village sociology, studying various common characteristics of village societies
4 Historical development of Sociology and Village Sociology in World and Türkiye, the importance of village sociology, Areas of Village-City differentiation
5 Duties of Village, internal and external relationships in Villages, Village-city relations
6 Place and importance of rural Population within the population of the Country,
7 Characteristics of Village Population
8 Midterm Exam
9 Characteristics of village settlement; physical, topographical, and biological characteristics of rural settlement
10 Village Settlement Types in terms of Shape (Collective, Dispersed etc.), its characteristics, advantageous and disadvantageous aspects
11 Social Stratification, Social Stratifications and Production Relationships within Village Society
12 Social Mobility, Reasons behind Social Mobility, Social Mobility types, institutions effecting Social Mobility, and the results of Social Mobility
13 Family as a social fact, family types, duties of families, marriage, family within village society, differences between village families and urban families
14 Consideration, religion, standards of judgment, belief, attitude and behavior patterns within Village Society, and their basic characteristics
