Course Objective

To understand the purpose and logic of satellite communications for voice, data and video applications in national and international communications. To be able to comprehend the requirements of satellite communication.

1 Purpose of satellite communications and fundamentals of satellite communication systems
2 Introduction to satellite communications, history, frequency spectrum and satellite frequency bands
3 Basic concepts of satellite communication, communication equipment of satellite ground station
4 Orbit types, satellite mobile communication systems
5 Calculation of coverage angle and distance to the satellite in geostationary orbit, satellite eclipse
6 RF satellite link, and link budget calculation
7 RF satellite link, and link budget calculation
8 MID-TERM EXAM
9 Cellular mobile phone systems
10 Radio and cellular communication concepts, mobility and portability concepts
11 Communication mobile systems, biological effects of radiation
12 Examination of sample satellite antenna systems
13 Examination of sample satellite antenna systems
14 Examination of sample base station systems
15 Dish antenna installation and assembly
