Course Objective

In this course, it is aimed to give students the basic knowledge of advances in data communications principles, communication environments, Internet protocols, LAN and WAN structures.

1 Basic concepts in data communication
2 Network topologies and network connection devices
3 Network connection devices such Repeater, Bridge, Router, Gateway and so on.
4 Introduction of OSI reference model and its layers.
5 Physical layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit
6 Data-link layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit I
7 Data-link layer; its functions, devices and protocol data unit II
8 MID-TERM EXAM
9 Network layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit
10 Transport layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit
11 Session layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit
12 Presentation layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit
13 Application layer; its functions, devices, and protocol data unit
14 Explanation of IEEE standards and their application sites
15 General review of topics before the final exam
