Course Objective

The aims of this course are students abilities of producing ornaments and jewelleries by using different materials and the methods employed by the other disciplines in art rather than the classical methods, performing studies that can take part within the modern jewellery design in international platform, using old and new methods together, having background information on production and embellishing techniques, reflecting this information to the design in an original way of vision.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Analyse the production methods of different design disciplines, have information about new and different materials, keep up with the developments in methods in order to use in ornament and jewellery production.
2   2. Use the production methods employed by different design disciplines that can be used in ornament and jewellery production and form the design according to the method
3   3. Bring a new perspective into the jewellery sector, perform production development studies within the design principles
4   4. Create innovator and original products in modern ornament and jewellery design, perform studies which can be presented on modern jewellery platform
5   Present and defend their studies (from design to the production process) in accordance with their material knowledge , technical abilities and ethic values

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Within this course;
1-Teaching
The lecturer of the course; explains the production methods of different design disciplines by using visual presentation, requires students to come to the lesson with a preparation.
2- Research
The student completes his / her technical research and shares it in the lesson.
3- Assigning projects and technical analysis
The student completes his / her design for using the required production techniques within the assigned project. Designs and production methods are discussed in the class. Sample studies from the international modern jewellery design platform are analysed and the instructor and the students share their opinions on technical analysis.
4- production process
Production period begins once the designs are chosen and the problems about the production process are solved. At this stage, the production, inclusive of the utilities of the atelier, begins. However, students may get help from the sources, except for the faculty, when there is necessary technical equipment which cannot be provided by the faculty.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1- The research of students by using the information on methods, their performance from the production process to the completion (ability of technical analysis, using the equipments in production process, solving the problems, completing the production etc.)
2- Students performances in front of the evaluation jury (their abilities of defending their designs, their technical qualifications)
Will be taken into consideration.

Assessment Criteria

1- The student's research on the techniques taught, the performance of the student in the process from design to the completion of the production process (making technical analysis, using the materials used in production techniques correctly, solving the problems encountered, finalizing the production)

2- The performance of the student in the evaluation jury (ability to defend his/her designs, technical equipment) will be taken into consideration.

Course Policies and Rules

1.There is an 80 % obligation in attendance to lesson.
2. All plagiarism attempts and actions would end up in disciplinary punishment
3. If one doesn t hand over the required sketch- design studies on time, the evaluation would be carried out by taking this into consideration. But the student is supposed to hand over required things.
4. For late project deliveries, decreasing a letter grade for each day will be applied.
