Course Objective

Creating original designs in consideration of the principles of form, function, aesthetics, ergonomy and design in the field of industrial ceramics and realizing these designs production are the aims of this course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course these qualifications will be expected from the student; to know about form, function, aestetic and ergonomy in the field of industrial ceramics
2   To know about design and design principles,
3   To show designs with the technical drawing,
4   To realize projects using computer design softwares
5   To make advanced modelling,
6   To make advanced plaster molds,
7   To use advanced forming methods, tools and technics,
8   To shape clay forms with slip clay by use of molds and glazing and firing these pieces

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Decleration of the project and required equipment.
2 Supplying the equipment and evaluation of project s sketches.
3 Approvaling of sketches for technical analysing and preparation of supplemantary materials.
4 Beginning project s plaster model and discussing the theoretical information regarding topics.
5 Finishing model and a general discussing.
6 Preparing the body and discussion on glazes. Preparation of mold.
7 Mold making and finishing presentation files.
8 Finishing molds and presentation files.
9 Slip casting and bisque firing. Discussion on project s presentation.
10 Slip casting and bisque firing.
11 Glazing and firing. Preparation of presentation.
12 Assesment of presentation and project.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lecturer will guide and inform the students about analyzing the project in technical and aesthetic manners and creating final products. The steps in the production process respectively will be sketching, technical analysing, technical drawing, plaster modeling, plaster molding, slip casting and firing the ceramic product. The student also will be responsible for theoretical researches, presentations and exhibitions related to projects.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Evaluation will be made from creative designing, technical analysing and technical drawing, precision in modeling and molding, qualification of theoretical researches and presentation files, and exhibiting of the project. In addition, carefulness of the student on keeping of the workshop and teamworking performance will be also taken into consideration. The class will be divided into two sessions and student will be responsible for signing in respect of attendance and also will be counted absent along unattended sessions.

1-% 80 Attendance is manditory.
2-All kinds of pilagiarism will result in disciplinary action.
3-Delivery of the projects on time and attandence of final presentation are obligatory.
4-Student will be responsible from the problems of misusing electric motorized equipment and hand tools.
5-Student will be responsible for the workshop s operating conditions and cleanliness .
