Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to supply the student with the fundamentals of EU- Türkiye relations, in terms of historical process, institutional framework and the main legal documents, with particular emphasis on the developments touching the EU-Türkiye business relations. For this purpose, firstly the institutional evolution of European Integration will be analysed along with the basic documents such as founding and amending treaties. Then the evolution of EU-Türkiye relations will be analysed, with particular reference to their impact on trade and business.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have sufficient understanding of what the EU is and what it is evolving into, with particular respect to the implications for Turkish accession;
2   Have sufficient understanding of the implications of EU-Türkiye relations for business circles in both the EU and Türkiye
3   Have a complete understanding of the main components of EU jargon especially regarding the business relations

Course Policies and Rules

1. Although the course is mainly based on lectures, around 20 % of each session is intended for class discussion, based on the lecture itself and assigned readings. Therefore, students are expected to be prepared for class participation at each session.
2. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
3. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
