Course Objective

The main purpose of the course is to further the learner s knowledge on international economic and business environment with particular emphasis on the institutionalization at regional level. Therefore, the main focus of the course will be on regional integration movements formed mostly by means of free trade agreements.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be aware of the global and regional dynamics that lead to regional integration movements for a deeper understanding of international business environment;
2   Be able to distinguish between different types of trade agreements and blocks, in order to understand the details of international economic and business environment
3   Be able to follow and interpret the evolution of regional trade blocks and to compare them among each other

9 Customs Unions and Common Markets Major experiences throughout the world will be analysed

Assessment Criteria

1. The learner will assess the role of global and regional dynamics in the formation of regional trade blocks.
2. The learner will explain different types of trade agreements and blocks, in order to understand the details of international economic and business environment.
3. The learner will demonstrate the way regional trade blocks evolved through time and compare them among each other.

Course Policies and Rules

1. Although the course is mainly based on lectures, around 20 % of each session is intended for class discussion, based on the lecture itself and assigned readings. Therefore, students are expected to be prepared for class participation at each session.
2. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
3. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
