Course Objective

The aim of this course is to have the students do a restoration study in conservation stage, and to teach them the techniques used in restoration.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   choose materials to be used in restoration,
2   apply the techniques used in restoration,
3   copy the new techniques developed for restoration,
4   do the cleaning and smoothing works after restoration,
5   represent the restoration they have done effectively.

Course Contents

1 Introduction of the 15-week course content and choosing the document to be restored
2 Examining the techniques used in carpet and rug restoration and restoration of a selected weaving
3 Cleaning the selected weaving
4 Technical analysis of the selected weaving and filling out the id form
5 Restoration of the selected weaving and information about cleaning, ravelling, fringe and çiti restoration
6 Going on with the restoration and information about edge and rib restoration
7 Going on with the restoration and information about warp and fluff restoration
8 Going on with the restoration and information about smoothing process
9 Going on with the restoration

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The target is to keep the students attendance at maximum level. In the first lesson the students are informed about the 15-week program. After informing them about the methods and techniques used in restoration, the restoration of a sample weaving is realized.

Evaluation criteria is made up of the students researches on the subject, project preparation and presentation and their success at design works.

Assessment Criteria

The students researches and assignments will be evaluated out of 100. Attendance will be effective on the pass grade by 20 %.

Course Policies and Rules

80 % attendance is compulsory. Workshop studies are nominal. Especially, designs and applications have to be completed in a lesson s time.
