Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Presentation of manuscripts, and manuscript writing paper used in the work of protecting the principles of the constituent materials, paper, structure and features, paper types, paper restoration material information, to present the acquisition of competence, the acquisition of information about varieties,
2   Materials such as manuscripts and archival documents conservation manuscript works of science and culture in the service of a particular state legislation for submission of istifadeye studies (consultation) to develop the knowledge and skills,to have a professional responsibility and ethical awareness.
3   Maintenance cleaning of manuscripts, artefacts a library, museum, store, gallery of works in environments such as storage conditions, deterioration in the mechanical elements of the natural destruction of archival documents the main features of the physical, chemical biological purpose to avoid losing information from the studies in order to provide protection in certain circumstances acquisition of competence to offer,
4   Protection principles manuscripts, to have professional responsibility and ethical awareness, conservation issues related to the competence, expertise and skills to transform the information obtained. Preservation of manuscripts in the world and in Turkey where they are transferred to digital media studies and the protection of these works provide and develop the professional knowledge to use.
5   Preservation of manuscripts in accordance with the principles of conservation and repair of different disciplines, utilizing an effective way to offering the provision of practical work, is expected.

Course Contents

1 Literature survey about conservation, restoration of manuscripts
2 Some of the archives materials restoration such as books and paper
3 Preparing material for restoration of manuscripts, taking picture before restoration.
4 Basic principles of the conservation and preservation
5 International standarts of conservation
6 Destructive factors ,oxidation-acidification and colors and chemical instabilities electromagnetic destructives
7 Environmental factors, heat, light, moisture,pollution, The damage caused by people
8 Equipment and materials necessary for the conservation of the classical paper
9 Protection and conservation of manuscripts related to the planning, protection and conservation research, building parts
10 Conservation storage, state buildings, storage equipment, archive boxes, dust and dirt protection and fire protection from natural disasters such as floodings, biological destruction of microorganisms-fungal stains-insect foxing and rodent protection of living things, etc.
11 General maintenance works of manuscripts and materials, applications, smoothing the destruction of harmful substances use of valuable documents, manuscripts packaging, to ensure supervision, struggle against the damaging elements of the building; the procedures, documentation procedures to be applied

Recognition of manuscripts, writing materials, which recognize the work, protection of culture and protection of manuscripts in a workshop environment to give theoretical and practical information.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

This course involves 1 theoretical course credits; and 2 practical course credits. In the educational year, both a mid-term exam and a final exam are given to the students so as to make them comprehend the course content during the lessons. By means of the exams, how much information given by the books and notes has been grasped, and at what degree the practices related to the designs have been turned into skills will be evaluated. The students will be supposed to prepare an assignment and present it in the course systematics they have grasped.
It is important for the students to attend classes because they can improve their drawing skills and because this applied course is the main course of the discipline the students related to. So, the attendance will be taken into consideration.
At the end of the term, by considering ethical, systematic, organizational and esthetical principles, each student will represent his project with a file including project stages.

Assessment Criteria

Exams will be evaluated out of 100. This grade will be determined according to the number of the questions to be asked in the exams. And also, the project, the assignment presentation and the attendance will be evaluated out of 100.

Participation in courses taken in the course, even those from the course after the start time are taken into consideration the participation of half a course. All entries will be considered above the general rate. Towards the end of each lecture topics will be covered in the next lesson the student is offered as a subject of study and research. The first description of the issue presented in the lesson after the class discussion of research results before the study begins.
