Course Objective

The historical evolution of Turkish art of hand printing (block printing), hand printing techniques, the stages of block preparation and theoretical information on traditional fabric block printing, Project applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knowing the history of textile printing
2   To understand the traditional block printing motifs and compositions.
3   To learn the basic textile desşgn rules.
4   To prepare printed textile surfaces
5   Stdents are expected tu foresee the finished products of their designs

Course Contents

1 Explanation of traditional fabric printing techniques
2 The history of block printing and traditional block printing will be tought.
3 . After the examination of the old block printing motifs, students will carry out new motifs, colours and compositions in order to prepare different size textile surfaces

7 The designs will be transferred to blocks.

9 Printing will be carried out on the textiles, using the prepared design blocks

Assessment Criteria

Project work and the presentation performance will be evaluated seperately on 100 points basis. 70 of the project points and 30 % of the performance points will add up to the final result.

All the work carried out by the student will be evaluated as a single Project, to be presented to a jury. Student s performance during presentation and his/her work will be evaluated seperately.
