Course Objective

The aim is to introduce local rugs and plain weavings with their historical development; to teach the students to analyze these weavings in terms of their technical and design features; to associate techniques with designs by a reproduction made in a computer environment.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

After scanning books and articles and researching the visual materials, a research file will be prepared by setting the ornament and composition charts belonging to the local weavings. After that, a reproduction study will be done to be able to comprehend the design method.

In the course, after a detailed research related to the chosen local weavings, the ornament and composition charts used for local weavings will be set and a research file will be prepared from these studies. After that, a reproduction study will be made so as to have the students comprehend the usage forms of ornaments and technically necessary rules at the pattern design stage.

Assessment Criteria

The Research files prepared by the students will be evaluated out of 100. Besides, at the end of the term, the reproduction study they have done will be evaluated out of 100 by the jury. The 40% of the Research File grade and the 60% of the jury evaluation will determine the pass grade.

Course Policies and Rules

The compulsory attendance is 80%. Before the end of the term, in the last 15 days, students will be able to learn their attendance. Students having absenteeism over 80% won t be accepted to the final exam. Students who are on sick leave will be considered absent. Students who don t attend the jury evaluation without an excuse won t be accepted for the evaluation by any means.
