Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach importance of calligraphy and its place in the book arts, as a complementary part of the function of decoration, aesthetic qualities, materials, information, operating system, with a classic exercise in the educational process to teach the use of technology in this process

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, these are expected from the students:1- To define the role of Turkish art of calligraphy in Turkish culture and history, in book arts and plastic arts
2   2- To identify and classify the materials with their properties and their preparation phases.
3   3- To define the stages of classic Turkish art of calligraphy education and present it with the practicing applications.
4   4- To show müfredat letter anatomies in a writing style.
5   5- To use modern technology in writing applications in Turkish art of calligraphy.

2 The releation Calligrapphy with Turkish art of illumination and their features. Edication of Calligraphy , examples; practice and project works.
3 To prepare unique Calligrapphy design Symmetric/ Müsenna writing styles in Turkish art of calligraphy Evaluation of practicing files and completion of projects..
4 To prepare main pattern and supplement (add) patterns.. practice" system, Writing Practice, commonly used techniques
5 Ecole of kûfi in in Turkish art of calligraphy. To apply unique Calligrapphy design on light surface

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course has 2 credits for theoretical knowledge and 2 credits for applications. During the semester, the attendance will be taken and there will be a midterm for students to comprehend the subjects in lessons. . In the midterm, the degree of comprehension and understanding of the subjects in given course books and also the degree of skills in applications will be evaluated. . The 30% of arithmetic mean of midterms and attendance and the 30% of the final exam will be taken in to consideration. Homework and a presentation will be expected from students. The attendance in this applied course is important so the attendance will also be evaluated. The semester project evaluation will include the evaluation of files and project studies regarding order and diligence in design stages.In order to number of questions in the exams, the mark distributions out of 100 points will be announced before the exams and the total result will be evaluated. The homework, presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100 points.

Assessment Criteria

The distribution to be made over 100 full grades according to the number of questions asked in the exams will be specified before the exam, and the total score calculated according to the answers will be evaluated.
The homework given in the course will be evaluated over 100 full points, taking into account the content and presentation criteria.
In the project evaluation, the student's work will be evaluated in the context of the principles of correctness, order and diligence and over 100 full points

Course Policies and Rules

The course begins with theoretical description, drawing with the help of visuals and personal applications about related subjects. Students who are late have right to enter the course in next half hour. Students who come to class after that time are evaluated as attended half of the class . At the beginning of the next class, stages of the works are examined, mistakes are criticized and discussed; then the students begin their new application in studios.
