Course Objective

The objective of this course is to have the students do research about visual culture, to have discussions and improve the writing skills according to the scientific journal rules. The course is structured in such a way that the student is active in introducing critical messages through various messages, media, and cinema.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   It is expected that the student will have a critical view of the importance of the audiovisual media.
2   . It is expected that the students should have enough knowledge about how visual images ( such as advertising, film, banner, brochure, packaging, billboard etc.)are used, produced, and their social, cultural, economic and political effects in today's media.
3   . It is expected that the students that students can have debates about the reality of media messages and the changing structure of media ownership.
4   It is expected that the students will be able to evaluate the media ethics and moral codes.,

1 Meeting, general functioning of the course, informing about resource books.
2 Defining media literacy, visual culture and its studies.
3 The relationship of media and capital
4 Media ethics, watching films about media criticism and debates
5 Media messages, representations, and applicability of media ethics
6 The structure of media ownership and monopolisation
7 The supervisory and executive structures of media ethics (such as (Basın Konseyleri, ombudsmanlık, RTÜK etc.)
8 How the images surround our life and the relationship of images and reality will be discusseed.
