To help students develop, design and produce a short film, using two-dimensional animation techniques.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Students' presentation of their synopses.
2 Students' presentation of their screenplays and reference materials Students are expected to collect and present film/video samples that they can use as references.
3 Recording and processing of audio Students are expected to record all the dialogue in their projects.
4 Explaining pose-to-pose and straight-ahead animation; production phase begins
5 Explaining layout and blocking
6 An overview of different techniques relevant to student projects Exploration of techniques that may be relevant to students' projects but are not otherwise covered in lectures.
7 Introduction to procedural/automated animation techniques Other techniques may also be covered, if deemed necessary.
8 Introduction to particle simulations Other techniques may also be covered, if deemed necessary.
9 An overview of foley sound effects
10 An overview of synchronazing audio and video
11 A brief introduction to compositing
12 Students' presentation of rough cuts
13 An overview of different post-production techniques relevant to student projects
14 Completion and submission of projects; evaluation

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Students are expected to report on the progress of their projects each and every week. They are expected to submit a complete short film by the end of the semester. Late or incomplete submissions are not accepted.

In-class assignments, attendance and presentations constitute 50% of the final grade; final projects make up the remaining 50%.

The creativity, perception and skill put into the execution of the homeworks will be taken into consideration.
