Course Objective

The aim of this course is to understand the structure, physiological roles and regulation of extracellular matrix and to synthesize the knowledge on extracellular matrix components and interactions related to human disease using clinical cases. In addition, the principles of methods detecting extracellular matrix components will be studied.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define the term extracellular matrix and roles of extracellular matrix
2   Learn the structure and physiological roles of extracellular matrix components
3   Classify the enzymes regulating the ECM and understand the regulation mechanisms at tanscriptional and translational level of theses enzymes
4   Explain several molecular mechanism underlying various disesaes based on abnormal extacellular matrix regulation
5   Discuss the principle of techniques using analysis of extracellular matrix components.
